I don’t want to sound like I know what I’m talking about but I thought I would post this comment / question. I have not looked at the Betaflight code and my experience with digital filters is primitive at best. But… It seems like you are reinventing digital filters. And it seems like since a drone is physically not attached to anything else, it should be possible to get the precise mechanical response characteristics for the particular drone by inputting sin waves at various frequencies into the system to get the drone’s frequency response curve. Then use that curve to create a matching digital filter which will optimize (at least in theory), the responsiveness of that particular drone. The idea would be to first get the drone to hover. Then wobble it at different frequencies on the three axes to get the response curve for each axes. Then compute the optimum digital filter for the drone for each axes.

Hey Chris, I have a Flylens 85 and I’m wondering if this is the right approach to take. A little nervous resetting everything to default in the pids. Looks like Flywoo has made a lot of changes already and I’ve her some people say it won’t fly without these changes. Can anyone chime in?

I was running some tip speed math and it seems like this motor truly maxes out a 5" prop's tip speed to right in that .9 range. That is awesome!

I think you confused voltage and current quite a bit here.

Hey Chris, for me comparing efficiency at such high value of thrust is kind of nonsense. A more "realistic" or "real world" value would be cruise/hover thrust. So lets say around 25 to 30 percent of take off weight from a typical 7 inch quad, for me that would be 350 g. Or is that meant by 1400 g? Anyway thank you for the overview of 7 inch props.

Could you say something about tuning a race quad? i feel like alot of this tight tuning would not apply there because racequad often get very "unclean" from extremely bent props and maybe even parts coming loose. Most pilots will just keep pushing through the round and hope their motors wont burn. I guess the trick here is to tune while having some bent props on?

i put the supernova motors on my nazgul v2 dc5 BNF and im getting flutter noise from the motors , what P.I.D tune can i use to fix this ?

You tend to get better low-pressure thrust without a duct and better high-pressure thrust with one; the issue you are seeing here is you're comparing *static test values*, unducted props have good static thrust but lower high-end thrust, and ducted props generally have poor static thrust but better high-end thrust.

What do oscillations sound like?

in any two systems, assuming you're using the same frequency and output power, you will get exactly the same penetration and range. That's to say, it's the frequency that determines penetration, not output power, and it's the output power that determines range, not frequency. People who compare dji with walksnail and conclude one better the other, aren't helping themselves or others. One obvious factor that has enormous effect on the outcome is antennae, that's why a fair test must also utilise the same antenna design.

Can you please compare the new 8S supernova to the rcinpower 8S 1600kv motors?
